25 years married!

Hubby and I went to the Mass in Celebration of the Sacrament of Marriage at Aylesford Priory on Bank Holiday Monday. 262 couples who are celebrating a significant wedding anniversary this year - with a combined total of more than 9,000 years of marriage - planned to attend the Mass in Celebration of Marriage at Aylesford Priory on Monday, 26th May 2008, though some were deterred by the atrocious Bank Holiday weather. Many were joined by members of their families. Every deanery in the diocese was represented.
Bishop John was the principal concelebrant, gave the homily and led the renewal of marriage vows.It was a beautiful service with the Right Reverend John Hine, Bishop in Southwark (Archbishop Kevin is still recovering from his operation). This is part of the message Archbishop Kevin gave all those attending - 10 years, 20 years, 25 years, 40 years, 50 years and 60 years married: "Your love and fidelity are a wonderful witness to God's generosity and love for his creation, a witness that is needed so much in our world today, where commitment and self-giving are, sadly, so often lacking. I share in your happiness today as you celebrate the years together in married love and thank Almighty God for sustaining you in your married lives. I pray that your love may deepen and grow as the years go by." It was a beautiful Mass including renewal of marriage vows and the rain held off for the afternoon (after prayer to Elijah!) though a bit on the chilly side! The geese had some babies for us to see and we had time for a coffee in their cafe and a look round the bookshop - which inevitably meant we would go home with some new books!
