http://www.archdioceseofcolombo.com/news.php?id=851 In July 2008 a severe persecution of Christians broke out in the Indian state of Orissa. A 22 year old nun was burnt to death when angry mobs burnt down an orphanage in Khuntpali village in Barhgarh district, another nun was gang raped in Kandhamal, mobs attacked churches, torched vehicles, houses of Christians destroyed, and Fr. Thomas Chellen, director of the pastoral center that was destroyed with a bomb, had a narrow escape after a Hindu mob nearly set him on fire. The end result saw more than 500 Christians murdered, and thousands of others injured and homeless after their houses were reduced to ashes. Recently a strange and dramatic event took place in Orissa, which has many people talking and wondering. In recent months, herds of wild elephants have begun to storm villages that are home to some of the worst persecutors of Christians during the troubles. In one village, where in August a year ago the Christians had to run for

When I Need More Love in My Life Heavenly Father, I thank You that I am Your child and that You love me. Help me to never doubt Your love for me. Help me to trust Your love for me so much that I never even feel a lack of love in my life from anyone else, either in my past, present, or future. Lord, I release anyone in my life who did not love me the way I hoped they would, or did not love me the way I wanted them to. Your love is greater than human love, and it never fails. Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. 1 John 3:1 - From “Prayers For Emotional Wholeness” Stormie Omartian: http://www.stormieomartian.com/

My favourite Advent hymn since school days: Hills of the North, Rejoice! River and mountain spring, Hark to the advent voice; Valley and lowland, sing; Though absent long, your Lord is nigh; He judgment brings and victory. Isles of the southern seas, Deep in your coral caves Pent be each warring breeze, Lulled be your restless waves: He comes to reign with boundless sway, And makes your wastes His great highway. Lands of the East, awake, Soon shall your sons be free; The sleep of ages break, And rise to liberty. On your far hills, long cold and grey, Has dawned the everlasting day. Shores of the utmost West, Ye that have waited long, Unvisited, unblest, Break forth to swelling song; High raise the note, that Jesus died, Yet lives and reigns, the Crucified. Shout, while ye journey home; Songs be in every mouth; Lo, from the North we come, From East, and West, and South. City of God, the bond are free, We come to live and reign in thee!
Coma Man Conscious after 23 years

A man injured in a car crash lay paralysed in a hospital bed for 23 years diagnosed as being in a coma, but was conscious of his ordeal the whole time. Rom Houben was paralysed as a result of his accident and had no way of alerting doctors that he was aware of his surroundings and able to hear every word they were saying. Doctors in Zolder in Belgium carried out a number of tests on Houben, and decided that his consciousness was 'extinct' and he was in a persistent vegetative state. On every occasion, he was diagnosed incorrectly and Mr Houben was left to suffer in silence for over two decades. Now 46, Houben said 'I dreamed myself away,' adding that 'I screamed, but there was nothing to hear'. 'I became a witness to my own suffering as doctors and nurses tried to speak with me until they gave up all hope.' The arrival of new high-tech scanners found that Houben's brain was functioning normally, and therapy has since allowed him to tap out messages o

Asteroid passes just 8,700miles from Earth - with only 15 hours warning By Claire Bates Last updated at 10:01 AM on 11th November 2009 Comments (128) Add to My Stories Although no one noticed at the time, the Earth was almost hit by an asteroid last Friday. http://acatholicmumclimbingthepillars.blogspot.com/ reports: "The Vatican expressed "astonishment" and "regret" at Tuesday's decision from the European Court of Human Rights that crucifixes in public school classrooms are a violation of freedom. Jesuit Father Federico Lombardi, director of the Vatican press office, gave a brief statement today to Vatican Radio in response to the decision." The crucifix has always been a sign of God's offer of love, of union and of welcome for the whole of humanity," the spokesman said. "It is to be regretted that it has come to be considered as a sign of division, of exclusion and of limitation of liberty. It is not this, and it is not so in the common feeling of our people.""

"As an astronomer I continue to believe that God is the creator of the universe," Funes told the Vatican mouthpiece, the Osservatore Romano. The possibility raises a difficult theological question concerning redemption from the original sin, which by Christian tradition occurred in the Garden of Eden when Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit of a particular tree. Funes told the Osservatore Romano: "If other intelligent beings exist, it's not certain that they need redemption." With his daring scheme for Anglicans, Benedict XVI fulfils the hopes of Cardinal Newman

The Telegraph reports: Was Pope Benedict XVI inspired by Cardinal John Henry Newman, whom it is hoped he will beatify in England next year, when he suddenly threw open the gates of Rome to disaffected Anglicans on Tuesday morning? The official website for Newman’s Cause hinted as much when it greeted the announcement with a reminder of Newman’s support for a proposal to establish an Anglican Uniate Church for converts, similar to that provided for Byzantine-rite Catholics. The plan was conceived by Ambrose Phillips de Lisle and Newman rightly guessed that it would be unworkable. But if it could be made to work, he said, he was all in favour. As he wrote to de Lisle in 1876: “Nothing will rejoice me more than to find that the Holy See considers it safe and promising to sanction some such plan as the Pamphlet suggests. I give my best prayers, such as they are, that some means of drawing to us so many good people, who are now shivering at our gates, may be discovered.” Read more here: ht

Being at the shop has meant I have been finding out more about Medjugorje and other Marian apparitions around the world. As well as Marian apologetics. The following article on Bl. Bartolomeo Longo and the Rosary was written by Br. Ezra Sullivan, OP. It originally appeared on the Catholic Exchange website on October 26, 2007, in the month dedicated to our Lady of the Rosary. On the day of Bartolo Longo’s beatification, October 26, 1980, Pope John Paul II called him a “man of the Madonna”; he later called him “a true apostle of the rosary” and “a layman who lived his ecclesial pledge to the full”. And John Paul II knew what he was saying — his own Marian spirituality was influenced deeply by what, as a young man, he had gleaned from Bartolo’s life and works. So who was this a man who so profoundly affected the gre

The schools and government are concerned about the craze for runner bands which can be exchanged in the school playground - for 'favours' by the girls. They are obviously concerned about sexualising of our children - what about the education system itself which has been sexualising our children at younger and younger ages. They should look on their own doorsteps first at some of the policies that they ahve out in place. Culture Watch says: Governments Sexualising Our Children We can understand the sex industry and porn lobby attempting to target our kids and push their sleazy agenda on them. But when the government gets into this business, using our tax dollars to do so, then we must be especially concerned. Primary school kids are being targeted by a website developed by La Trobe University. Parenting a child well is a worthwhile, necessary, demanding full time JOB OF WORK. To put a parent with no working partner under pressure to work (under threat of financial penalty) when a child is under 5 may cause long term psychological damage to the child. Research shows how personality problems are formed in children traumatised before the age of 5. These lead to future (costly) social problems. Vulnerable children need love and stability with their biological parent/s. Why destroy a child's developing sense of self, learned through family love, security and discipline by paying a childminder when you can pay the parent to do the job she/he is biologically programmed to do. Children left with trauma find it easy to turn away from family to gangs for security and recognition. Children of all ages are vulnerable to abuse as they grow up looking for love they can't find at home. These are some of the problems exacerbated because our culture does not appear to value good pare

Try something like this for an explanation: “Now that Uncle Joe is in heaven with God, he really knows God so much better than we do. When you have a problem, ask Uncle Joe to take it to God for you. Uncle Joe still loves you so much—even more now that he’s in heaven. He’ll want to do what he can to help you. It is about time this man was locked up. It is what comes of blurring reality tv with nonsense. Reality tv in itself is pretty low down on the 'watchable' scale but this man takes it a step too far. The Daily Mail reports in regards to the offence that the lady in question says that: "Cohen, NBC Universal and others - claimed they told her Bruno was a celebrity and would appear to call numbers at the charity bingo game she ran for the elderly in Palmdale, California. Instead the comedian arrived outlandishly dressed, in what Olson described as an: 'extreme, outrageous, offensive caricature of a gay man dressed in sexually revealing clothing with an Austrian accent.' She claims Bruno used 'vulgar and offensive language' during the bingo session and when she tried taking back t

The Daily Telegraph reports: Catholic charities who discriminate against homosexual couples who want to adopt children are breaking the law, the Charity Tribunal has ruled. The Tribunal's ruling leaves leading charity Catholic Care (Diocese of Leeds) facing a deep religious impasse and creates a fundamental conflict between the tenets of the Catholic Church and the law of the land. Catholic Care has a respected reputation, particularly in finding new families for "hard to place" children, but has never provided adoption services to homosexuals for religious reasons.

He was the medical director of a clinic in Wichita, Women's Health Care Services, one of only three nationwide which would provide abortion after the 21st week of pregnancy (known as late-term abortion). US President Barack Obama said, "I am shocked and outraged by the murder of Dr George Tiller as he attended church services this morning. However profound our differences as Americans over difficult issues such as abortion, they cannot be resolved by heinous acts of violence. Randall Terry, a political activist and founder of Operation Rescue in America said: "George Tiller was a mass-murderer. We grieve for him that he did not have time to properly prepare his soul to face God. I am more concerned that the Obama Administration

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint John 15:26-27.16:12-15. When the Advocate comes whom I will send you from the Father, the Spirit of truth that proceeds from the Father, he will testify to me. And you also testify, because you have been with me from the beginning. I have much more to tell you, but you cannot bear it now. But when he comes, the Spirit of truth, he will guide you to all truth. He will not speak on his own, but he will speak what he hears, and will declare to you the things that are coming. He will glorify me, because he will take from what is mine and declare it to you. Everything that the Father has is mine; for this reason I told you that he will take from what is mine and declare it to you.

Notes from a Small Island (Paperback) by Bill Bryson (Author) After nearly two decades in Britain, Bill Bryson, the acclaimed author of such bestsellers as "The Mother Tongue" and "Made in America", decided it was time to move back to the United States for a while. This was partly to let his wife and kids experience life in Bryson's homeland - and partly because he had read that 3.7 million Americans believed that they had been abducted by aliens at one time or another. It was thus clear to him that his people needed him. But before leaving his much-loved home in North Yorkshire, Bryson insisted on taking one last trip around Britain, a sort of valedictory tour of the green and kindly island that had so long been his home. His aim was to take stock of modern-day Britain, and to analyze what he loved so much about a country that had produced Marmite, zebra crossings, and place names like Farleigh Wallop, Titsey, and Shellow Bowells. With wit and irreverence, Bill

Pro-Life vigils are a very good opportunity for priests to give support to active pro-lifers. The Helpers of God's Precious Infants often speak of how a prayerful presence outside an abortion clinic is a way of spiritually being present at Calvary. it may be that a life is saved, maybe not. What is important is to be there peacefully and prayerfully in union with Christ. The Helpers always like to have a priest with them. It can be a little uncomfortable because sometimes there are hostile reactions - but sometimes it is painfully obvious that such reactions are themselves indicative of post-abortion trauma. I sometimes get over to the Maidstone vigils but I can't make the next one I was asked for. I suggested to Carole that I could make an appeal here for priest volunteers and she welcomed the idea. So if you are a priest and can spare a couple of hours just once in a while to get over to Maidstone, please email Carole. mailto:ca7jor33@yahoo.co.uk More from this Blog here: ht

Sky News reports on the investigation into alleged abuse at schools and orphanages run by the Catholic Church in Ireland has described how children were "terrorised" by nuns and priests. The commission's findings will make difficult reading for orders like the Christian Brothers and the Sisters of Mercy, which ran many of the children's institutions under investigation. Some of the allegations are more than 60 years old, with many of the perpetrators already dead. Wikepedia states that: The Prophecy of the Popes, attributed to Saint Malachy , is a list of 112 short phrases in Latin . They purport to describe each of the Roman Catholic popes (along with a few anti-popes ), beginning with Pope Celestine II (elected in 1143) and concluding with a later added pope described in the prophecy as "Peter the Roman", whose pontificate will end in the destruction of the city of Rome . Pope Benedict is known as : the 111th Pope - De Gloria Olivae(The Glory of the Olive or "To the Olive"). Considering the Pope's recent visit to Israel it is easy to interpret him as being a symbol for peace or the olive branch. Wikepedia says: Another interpretation was that "De Gloria Olivae" would promote world peace , as symbolized by the olive branch . In a general audience on 27 April 2005 , Benedict XVI explained that he chose his regnal name as a link to Benedict XV , "Religio Depopulata", and that: "In his foots

"And the swine, because it divideth the hoof, yet cheweth not the cud, it is unclean unto you: ye shall not eat of their flesh, nor touch their dead carcase." Deuteronomy 14:8 This was a command to the Jews who were concerned about clean and unclean animals. http://www.themodernreligion.com/misc/hh/pork.html has this to say about eating pork: Bad effects of pork consumption : Pig's bodies contain many toxins, worms and latent diseases. Although some of these infestations are harbored in other animals, modern veterinarians say that pigs are far more predisposed to these illnesses than other animals. This could be because pigs like to scavenge and will eat any kind of food, including dead insects, worms, rotting carcasses, excreta (including their own), garbage, and other pigs. Influenza (flu) is one of the most famous illnesses which pigs share with humans. This illness is harbored in the lungs of pigs during the summer months and tends to affect pigs and humans in the co

He that has clean hands, and a pure heart; who has not lifted up his soul to vanity, nor sworn deceitfully. Psalm 24: 4 AKJV We do not need to wear special clothes or to wash a certain way before we approach God, before we enter into His presence, like the Jews did in the Old Testament before they entered the Temple. God looks on the heart. All we need is a pure heart and a contrite spirit before God. But we do need to be washed in the waters of repentance and baptism. And cleansed with the confession of our sins. "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." The Holy See had a representative at the recent World Conference against Racism, the fourth held so far. This is organised by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), a special agency of the United Nations established after the Second World War and the Holocaust. Interestingly some of the Nations, such as Canada, Israel, the United States of America, New Zealand, Germany, Italy, Sweden, the Netherlands, Poland and, after some initial skepticism, Australia announced they would not participate in the conference. So the presence of the Holy See was controversial. It was seen by some as being a vehicle for an attack on Israel as the outspoken Iranian president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejhad was present and there were concerns that anti-semitic remarks would be made. Navi Pillay, the UN High Commissioner for human rights said that the boycott undercut the global effort to fight racism. Pope Benedict said that the conference was needed to combat racial into

The Catholic Times this week, Sunday April 26th, ran a piece on 'Having faith in a vision of Europe' by James Hastings. James reported on Archbishop Diarmuid Martin's comments on the role Ireland has to play in a new Europe. Archbishop Martin is Archbishop of Dublin and Primate of Ireland. he was born in Dublin. He quoted the Archbishop as saying: "... European Christians have a new opportunity to bring to a Europe in search of hope and vision, a challenging way of bringing the Christian message." For Ireland and Britain, these are challenging times for all of us and a time when people are more receptive to the Christian message and more in need of a hope that the material world has failed to give them. The Archbishop believes it is not a political structure that will bring about change but a spiritual one. More than ever Europe needs to hear the gospel of Jesus Christ.
