The second report is of the side effects being experienced by those who took the swine flu vaccine which some say was rushed out without proper testing.

A swine flu vaccine given to millions of Britons is being investigated after it was linked to the sleeping disorder narcolepsy.

The European Medicines Agency is looking into Pandemrix after being alerted to a number of cases.

The rare condition causes sufferers to fall asleep suddenly and unexpectedly.

Pandemrix, which is made by GlaxoSmithKline, was the main vaccine used in the UK at the height of last year’s flu pandemic.

It was given to six million people in high-risk groups, including children and those with conditions such as diabetes, heart disease and asthma.

It has been given to at least 30.8million people in Europe.

In a statement yesterday, the EMA said ‘Although the cases of narcolepsy have been reported in association with the use of Pandemrix, it is at present not known if the vaccine caused the disorder.

‘The agency will look carefully at all of the available data to determine whether there is evidence for a causal association.’
