All Soul's Day

Today we commemorate All the Faithful Departed (All Souls)

To our human eyes, death seems to be the very end and in the words from the Book of Wisdom "utter destruction." (Wisdom 3:3)

Today the Church celebrates the Feast of All Souls, where we have the wonderful opportunity to pray for the souls of all the departed, begging God to have mercy on them and to bring them to rest in the never-ending splendor of heaven.

It is also a time for us to contemplate our own inevitable earthly demise and to prepare in ways that have been assured that we, like the blessed souls, will be numbered among the just, which Holy Scripture says are "in the hand of God" and "greatly blessed, because God tried them and found them worthy of Himself." (Wisdom 3:1, 5)
